Suitable for complete beginners and those who've previously tried Lindy Hop classes but don't yet have the confidence to social dance. Also ideal if you already dance but would like to learn the other role.

Ticket types
- Follow - if you know you'd like to learn the follow role
- Lead - if you know you'd like to learn the lead role
- Pair - If you're signing up with someone else and want to be able to practice together, make sure you book one lead and one follow in the same transaction
- Switch - If you don't mind / aren't sure which role to learn, we'll allocate you a role for this course - this helps keep roles balanced in class. You can always try the other role another time! Learning either role will be beneficial to your dancing overall.
If you know which role you'd like to learn and are prompted to join the waitlist, please do so. You'll be emailed when/if a space becomes available. Or consider signing up for a "switch" place!
Explanation of the roles
- Roles are not gender specific, anyone can lead or follow.
- The lead initiates the moves, while the follow moves in response to the connection from the lead. As dancers become more experienced, the follow finds opportunities to add their own variations or moves and the lead responds by giving them space. It is helpful to think of this social partner dance as a conversation.
- Neither role is more challenging than the other, but they are quite different. Some dancers to learn to lead and follow which is the best of both worlds!

About Lindy Hop
Lindy Hop is a Black American dance that evolved in the New York district of Harlem from the late 1920s alongside the development of jazz music. Its heyday was the Swing era of the 1930s and at its centre was the magnificent Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, home to the famous Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers.
T&Cs
Cancellation: You may cancel your place for a refund subject to a £5 admin fee per person up to one week before the course starts, in this case by Monday 25th May. After that, tickets are non refundable. However, if you realise during the week before the start of the course that you won't be able to attend, let us know asap as we may have people on the waitlist who could replace you, in which case we can proceed with a refund as above.
Waiver: Dancing is a physical activity and you attend Swing City events at your own risk. Any injury or loss is your own responsibility. The organisers and venue cannot be held responsible in any circumstance.
